So I find myself once again at the Soo Campground in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Tomorrow is my first of 6 weeks of Robotics Camp and I am happy to be back in the Soo. As I write this, the Sky is a beautiful blue with salmon and purple clouds. I just watched the sunset at 9:40 and it is still very bright now at 10. I left home this afternoon and it was a hot and humid 95! When I arrived in the Soo, it was 75 with very little humidity! A perfect evening in the UP. I am enjoying a Bell’s Two Hearted Ale and starting to plan out what I will be teaching tomorrow morning.
The past few months have been a crazy blur. I had a decent track season and found that this season flew by faster than any season to date. We didn’t do as well as we had hoped but I am definitely looking forward to next season. Towards the end of the school year, I received my 5th layoff in as many years. It is frustrating to get this every year and it seem like I just start looking for a house or some land and then I have to put everything on hold. Right after I got the layoff, I was told of a possibility of teaching at Bronson High School since they had a technology position open. I have completed the Interview and am waiting for the phone call telling me if I made it or not. So right now, life is in limbo and it is nice to have the solidity of the Robotics Camp to help focus my attention on something other than work! I have never thought of the camp as an actual job. I see this as getting paid to have fun with a bunch of cool and nerdy kids and hopefully convince a few of them to attend Lake State! On another note, if you are ever in the Upper Peninsula at St. Ignace, you have to try a UP original. Suzy’s Pasties are the best UP pasties ever created! In the past they have been open 10-6 on every day except for Wednesday. Today was the first time in as long as I have been going there (over 20 years or so) that they have been open on Wednesday! You would not believe my surprise and excitement as I pulled into the driveway, as I had done many times before, expecting and anticipating a closed shop but finding the Open sign on! A Suzy’s Pasty is something to be savored and I am hoping to get down there soon enough to buy a couple more for my freezer! Well, the Two Hearted is gone, it is getting dark and the Mosquitoes are out. That means it is time to call it quits. I have another long day ahead of me!
